Joel George MBA, MSN RN: Transforming Healthcare Through Luxury Hospitality

Thirteen years ago, I began my career as an ER nurse, quickly recognizing that healthcare environments were often transactional, dreary, and far from patient-centric. Driven by a vision to revolutionize healthcare, I embarked on a journey to infuse hospitality into medical design and operations. My first major transformation came as the Director of Radiology in 2016 at a large healthcare organization overseeing $288 million in net operating income, seven modalities, three leaders, and a team of over 100 radiological technicians. I led operational improvements, increased outpatient revenue by 26%, and maintained world-class employee engagement. I was able to reimagined the imaging department which had a beachside theme, incorporating advanced technology like MRI video goggles and state of the art equipment. These enhancements not only reduced sedation rates but also dramatically improved the patient experience.

As a visionary leader  in innovative clinical business, I was invited by the CEO in 2018,  to travel to New York and partner with a creative agency to  envision the future of healthcare 5-10 years ahead. This led to the conceptualization and creation of a retail experiential facilities that were 36,000 sq. ft. designed as one-stop shop for care. By applying insights from luxury hospitality brands such as Ritz Carlton and Four Seasons, I embedded a consumer-obsessed focus into every facet of these facilities, from design to operations.

Years Of Experience

Today, I’ve successfully designed, conceptualized, operate  and  launch five of these facilities , which have become the highest-rated consumer experience facilities in the system. These facilities bring together multiple provider specialties, labs, imaging, physical therapy, and primary care under one roof, all designed with a hospitality-inspired approach. I have studied top luxury brands and meticulously applied their principles of consumer obsession to healthcare, creating environments that are as welcoming as they are effective. These facilities have created over 300 clinical and non-clinical jobs and have served more than 144,000 patients with a concierge approach.
My passion for creating memorable patient experiences was sparked during my time as an ER nurse, where I witnessed firsthand how sterile, uninviting medical spaces impacted patient care. As I pursued dual master’s degrees in Nursing Leadership and Business Administration, I became convinced that combining clinical expertise with strategic business acumen was key to transforming healthcare.
Outside of my professional life, my family—my wonderful wife Savitha and our two daughters, Selah and Norah—are my greatest inspiration. They motivate me to be the best husband, father, and spiritual leader I can be. Together, we cherish our time spent dancing, golfing, playing music, and traveling.
As an active member of the Asian American Pacific Islander leadership community, I am passionate about elevating fellow Indian Americans to influential roles beyond the stereotypes. I have had the privilege of meeting transformational leaders and pushing healthcare into the future by embedding hospitality principles into healthcare design and operations.
Currently, I am completing a PhD in Organizational Management, with a focus on innovation. I firmly believe that the future of healthcare lies in shifting from reactive to proactive care, providing access to services where people live, work, and play. This approach, coupled with a commitment to value-based care, is how we can make healthcare more affordable and accessible.
I am excited for what the future holds and am committed to honoring the promise that God makes to those who faithfully pursue their calling.

  – Led a team that partnered with HOME INSTEAD of Clermont for two consecutive years, providing essential needs to over 200 senior citizens.

Biggest Challenge I Have Overcome:

As a business healthcare leader for over 13 years, one of the most profound challenges I faced emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic. I was tasked with managing a team of over 100 imaging technologists and 3 radiologists in an environment filled with uncertainty and fear. The responsibility of implementing new infection prevention protocols, while simultaneously handling the surge of COVID-19 cases, required a delicate balance between maintaining rigorous safety standards and providing compassionate, consistent care to our patients. This period was marked by relentless pressure, as we navigated the complexities of keeping our employees safe and healthy, all while addressing the emotional toll of burnout and turnover. Despite the overwhelming challenges, my unwavering commitment to my team and the patients we serve drove me to create a work environment that upheld the highest standards of care, even in the face of unprecedented adversity.
